Foundation Degree Media Make-up, Special Effects Make-up and Hair Design student Megan Fawcett Ward spent two days making a suit out of press cuttings from her local paper, The Hull Daily Mail, for her degree project. She hopes her design will get her noticed in the industry she has always dreamed of working in.
Megan, aged 18, from East Yorkshire says: "We had a brief to create a tramp character suitable for a film, theatre or novel. I wanted the suit to be really different and stand out. People living on the streets often use newspapers to keep themselves warm, so there was that aspect there as well. I wanted to use the Mail as it is my local newspaper. I decided to find the most eye-catching headlines to add to the design and I thought it would be cool for the suit to represent all the major stories that have happened in the area recently.”
As part of the project Megan also designed and applied a beard for her model and took photographs of her finished design. Stories featured on the suit include the Mail's coverage of Hull being named UK City of Culture 2017.
Megan said: "I am really pleased with it, I didn't expect it to look as good as it does – I'd actually love to wear it myself." Megan loves fashion. On leaving school she enjoyed studying beauty. Her dream job would be travelling the world working for make-up company Mac. She is hoping her latest creation will get her noticed in the fashion industry.
